   High Speed Spin Testing



Electronic subsystems and sensors used in high-g applications must not only survive but reliably operated in environments that experience extreme dynamic conditions of high acceleration and spin rates.  The ability of subsystems such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, IMUs, and other electronic packages and sensors to reliably function in harsh acceleration environments is vital to the success of mission-critical operations. 

Our specialized equipment allows sustained high speed spin testing of electronic components and hardware systems under simulated high centrifugal environments for military and commercial validation.  OTS' custom-built spin rig provides you with the critical rotation rate data necessary to guide the successful development of next-generation measurement technologies needed in these high-g arenas.

Spin Test System

OTS utilizes a custom built high speed rotor rig that can mechanically spin test articles of multiple sizes, geometries and weights (up to 2kg) to a target steady-state angular velocity of 250Hz (15,000 rpm or 108,000°/sec).


The variable frequency controller has been tuned to provide smooth transition and accurate commands from 0-250Hz.  The rotor system receives a spin rate command, and mechanically spins the test article up to the prescribed rate through the use of the motor-bearing fixture.  Spin rates are monitored using the controller output screen and are recorded for each test.


System Features

  • Test articles up to 4.5 lbs (2kg) supported on a specimen mounting shaft.
  • Specimen mounting shaft with a balanced and working cylindrical volume of 225 in3.
  • Steady-state angular motion with a maximum spin rate of 250Hz (15,000 rpm).
  • Variable control of angular velocity in 25Hz increments.
  • Acceleration loading held steady for test durations of up to 30 minutes.
